Induction heating is the use of electromagnetic induction method to make the heated material (that is, the workpiece) internal current, relying on the energy of these eddy currents to achieve the purpose of heating. The basic components of induction heating system include induction coil, AC power supply and workpiece. According to different heating objects, the coil can be made into different shapes.

The coil is connected with the power supply, which provides alternating current for the coil. The alternating current flowing through the coil generates an alternating magnetic field through the workpiece, which makes the workpiece generate eddy current to heat. Induction furnace started with the birth of automobile industry and tractor industry. Because of its high heating efficiency, high speed, good controllability and easy to realize mechanization and automation.

At present, the most effective induction heat treatment process has the following applications: surface quenching, diathermal quenching, tempering and stress relief (low temperature), annealing and normalizing (high temperature), weld annealing, powder metal sintering, etc. It has been widely used in smelting, casting, bending, hot forging, welding and surface heat treatment industries. In the aspect of casting, the duplex melting process is developing rapidly, that is, the precision casting of nodular iron or alloy steel is carried out by using induction furnace heat preservation modification; In the aspect of forging, using induction heating to realize rapid diathermy hot forging not only reduces the oxide skin loss, but also greatly increases the service life of forging die. The material utilization rate can reach more than 85%, and the surface roughness of forging can be less than 50. In the aspect of welding and quenching, foreign countries are committed to developing high-power all solid-state high-frequency power supply on the one hand, and developing a complete set of highly automated heat treatment system on the other Processing system. At present, about 10 million tons of castings are needed every year in our country. However, the foundry industry is still dominated by Cupola Melting and general casting of cast iron. The tonnage is small, resulting in large fluctuation of temperature and composition and high scrap rate. The scrap rate of better foundry industry is 6-15, while the scrap rate of general foundry is as high as 30%.
